As my wife and child are still away on holiday, I am using my free time at home to do a bit of scenery working – something where I sincerely lack experience as I usually don’t have the free space to let larger pieces stand around for a longer time (to let paint dry and other stuff). As a consequence I am currently working on half a dozen terrain pieces at the same time… probably not a wise decision, but a hobby butterfly’ gotta do what a hobby butterfly gotta do…
Anyway, I guess during the next weeks you will see a lot of photos of my eager, but meager attempt to get myself some better (and, hopefully, painted) collection of scenery pieces…
Here we have one of my pieces, a hill for Warhammer Fantasy Battles. As you can see from the photo (a bad one it is, sorry), the center part with the huge King’s Wall (built up from two King’s Walls from the Battle at Skull Pass starter set for the 7th edition of Warhammer Fantasy) was originally built as a much smaller hill, made up from cardboard, loads of glue and sand. Unfortunately, I did this smaller hill was in a totally wrong dimension, it looked awful.
But with the additional space, stones and a runestone (originally mad by myself for a different scenery piece – we’ll come to that another time), I guess this hill will eventually be looking good. Of course there is still a lot to do… I’ll still have to do some terraforming with modelling clay to really make those pieces of cardboard a hill… then there’ll be some sanding, some painting and finally probably some static grass… but I already have a good feeling about this all, which is rare in all my hobby endeavours…
By the way, I don’t think I’ll have problems to use this hill in some Sci/Fi-Setting… after all, I still remember the Squats…
