I am too tired today, so I give you just a couple of old photos. You know, I can sometimes be quite patient, hunting on eBay or elsewhere for the “perfect” piece of miniature for my projects for weeks and months until I get them at a price I can accept.

For more than a year, for example, I am tinkering and planning to do my own Space Marines cavalry –  I want to use those instead of bikes and trikes. Sure, it will look cheesy, but then, I love cheese… for the trike I imagine some kind of gothic chariot. I already had most of the pieces I’ll need for that one, except for a yoke and a drawbar.

Not a joke, but a yoke - and two horses, two elves... a lot of pewter...

And here it is – something like a year ago or more, I came across this old High Elves chariot on eBay. It is incomplete with the wheels and other pieces missing, but then I only needed the aforementioned yoke and drawbar. And while this one looks quite… elvish, you know, it still is sufficient for my plans… and, of course, a friend of mine who wants to get his High Elves rolling again… he will be happy to get those elves into his hands…

During the same week I also had the chance to get a pile of old models from the infamous “Battle Masters” game for just one Euro plus postage. I did it because I love those old, clumsy miniatures and because I wanted to get hold of those two heavy armoured horses, to draw my… trike… of sorts… I cleaned them up – quite a lot of excess flash and moldlines here – and filled up the big hole for the rider with Green Stuff.

More dramatic... horsies!

Here’s a different photo. Of course they don’t look very dynamic, but I guess they will be fine, being heavy horses, but not distracting from the chariot, which I hope will end up as a true showpiece (though probably too big to be  practical in the game, with all those Lines of Sight stuff…).

I don’t know what to do with the two riders, though… they do look a bit too clumsy for any of my armies… still I cleaned those up,  too, and removed those gigantic poles that used to fix them on their horses… looked too much like dicks to me.

Orcs, orcs, orcs, orcs, orcs!

Orcs, orcs, orcs, orcs, orcs!

Lovely orcs, lovely orcs...

I also got a lot of other stuff from “Battle Masters”, like this unit of orks… I pimped those with a sanded base and some original Ork bitz for their shields. Probably a waste of bitz, but hey, I was in the mood for that…

The secret star of this purchase is this Battle Masters Ogre. Normally I am no fan of the Ogres, but this one is somehow cute… I had a hard time and a rendezvous with a lot of Mr. White Putty until I had finally cleaned that one up sufficiently and filled up all the gaps on this model… it came without a base, so I put it on a large Warhammer Fantasy Base, adorned with a little Snotling – I plan to include this miniature into my Nightgoblin army, either as a hired hand, or rather as a unit filler – “look, we brought our big brother with us”….

There was a bunch of other stuff in that deal, like the rulebook and a lot of flagpoles… I don’t have a use for those yet, but we’ll see, we’ll see…

I’ll surely keep you posted on those miniatures, even though it will need some more time… and some more bitz…

More shameless advertisements…
